The South African Motorbike Delivery Association (SAMDA) delivered a highly impactful Mass Rider Recruitment and Registration Programme in Tembisa, drawing significant turnout from unemployed youth and aspiring delivery riders. The initiative marked a major step towards formalising participation in South Africa’s rapidly growing delivery economy, as hundreds of attendees engaged in registration, onboarding, and industry exposure.

The event successfully created a platform where unemployed individuals and those seeking entry into the delivery sector were able to register, gain insight into the industry, and understand how to access income-generating opportunities. SAMDA’s structured approach ensured that participants were not only recruited but also educated on the expectations, responsibilities, and sustainability of working within the delivery ecosystem.

A key highlight of the programme was the strong presence of institutional and industry stakeholders. The City of Ekurhuleni played a vital role in delivering economic education, equipping attendees with practical knowledge on financial discipline, economic participation, and the importance of contributing meaningfully to the local economy. The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) further supported the initiative by sharing opportunities related to youth development programmes, funding access, and business support.

In addition, the event featured a dynamic industry exhibition, where leading stakeholders showcased products, services, and opportunities within the delivery and mobility sector. This direct engagement between industry players and participants created valuable linkages, exposing attendees to real-world solutions, potential partnerships, and pathways for growth within the sector.

Attendance exceeded expectations, with large numbers of young people participating throughout the day. The high level of engagement demonstrated the urgent demand for accessible economic opportunities and highlighted the relevance of the delivery industry as a viable employment pathway in township economies.

SAMDA confirmed that the success of the Tembisa programme is only the beginning. The organisation has committed to rolling out the Mass Rider Recruitment and Registration Programme across various provinces in South Africa 🇿🇦, with the aim of building a nationally recognised, structured and inclusive delivery workforce.

This initiative reflects a growing shift towards practical, community-driven solutions to unemployment, where collaboration between industry bodies, government institutions and private sector partners creates real and measurable impact.
